There are numerous well - known artists in Russia and Poland, but what sets the composers apart from these two Eastern European countries? Tonight, conductor YU Ji and violinist YANG Xiaoyu will perform three pieces by Rachmaninoff and Vinyavsky. Vocalise is Rachmaninoff' s piece for the female vocalist Nezhdanova. Similar to Mendelssohn' s Songs Without Words, it lacks words but is far from boring. However, with the soprano’ s melody, people seem to find the Russian artist' s heroine both intriguing and exquisite, yet tinged with melancholy. Symphonic Dances contained Rachmaninoff' s signature style. Despite being labeled “dance music”, it resembles more of a symphonic composition due to its grand structure. This piece is also known as Rachmaninoff' s Symphony No. 5 due to its extensive subject matter and well - integrated sound box effect. Wieniawski is a well - known Polish violinist who was a close friend to Chopin and contributed significantly to the development of subsequent violin talents. At the age of 17, he composed the Violin Concerto No. 1, which, while not a typical concert work, is notable for its challenging technique and passionate emotion.
