VLADIGEROV Scandinavian Suite, based on the music to “A Dream Play”, Op. 13
SCRIABIN Symphony No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 29
Bulgarian conductor Pavel Baleff will lead an unusual and intriguing symphonic concert, featuring compositions by Bulgarian composer Vladigerov, known for their strong national characteristics. The Scandinavian Suite, created by the composer for A DREAM PLAY, will be premiered in China. The piece combines elements of Nordic traditional dance with the composer' s musical language to create a vibrant and imaginative suite of dances. On the other hand, Richard Strauss and Scriabin' s work was considered subversive. Although Richard Strauss's music is traditional, his operas are more realistic than past celebrations of romantic ideals. The INTERMEZZO exposed the audience to the daily and prosaic parts of marriage and the media chastised him for the “desecration of sacred music”, yet the composer imbued the piece with soul via magnificent music, making it extraordinary. Meanwhile, all Russian musicians preserve and promote national music, but Scriabin deviates from traditional music composition, and many musicians condemn him for his arrogance. Symphony No. 2 in C Minor is a typical piece of his early works, unique in musical expression and arrangement, and unrivaled among contemporary composers.
